Matchbox cars, Star Wars figurines, flow blue ceramics, etc, etc. Speaking of ornament, the way in which an object is engraved, or painted, or carved, or any of a hundred other ways ornament has been used can make a tremendous difference in the overall quality of the item. Or maybe you've been collecting for years. Good question.

As an example, take a look at the 3000-year-old, broad collar below, made of faience beads—a glazed ceramic from quartz. Holes in the beads were drilled with a handheld bow.
