As part of industry standards, we as appraisers need to requalify with the ISA every 5 years for our continuing membership. There have been a lot of changes since my last requalification 5 years ago, and now it is time to get busy making sure my reports are up to date on USPAP and ISA requirements and best practices.
Formulating the AppraisalReport The appraiser will prepare a comprehensive appraisalreport based on the gathered information and analysis. The report will include a detailed description of the artwork, its condition, provenance, and the methodology used to determine its value.
Experience Appraisers must have a certain amount of experience appraising antiques and collectibles. However, This may include working with a mentor, completing appraisalreports, and participating in peer review. Examination Appraisers must pass an examination that tests their knowledge and skills in antique appraisal.
That means that, at a minimum, I have been in the business for five years, have an undergraduate college degree, have taken and passed three core courses on valuation, have taken and been tested in a specialty field study area (Fine Art), have passed a certification exam, have passed a peer vetting of my appraisalreports, stay up-to-date with USPAP (..)
